FISCH (Future for Iringa Street Children) has identified, purchased, and dedicated a 9-acre plot of land to create a safe, supportive, and sustainable new community for vulnerable children living on the streets of Iringa. This new development, known as FISCH City, will be a beacon of hope for at-risk children, providing shelter, education, vocational training, and care.
There are an estimated 1,000 children living on the streets in Iringa, exposed to abuse, exploitation, and harm. Since 2007, FISCH has supported over 1,200 children, but with rising numbers and limited resources, a new facility is urgently needed.
Current Challenges:
• Overcrowding in existing facilities
• Limited resources
• Increasing number of street children
FISCH City is designed to support and empower street children. The plan includes:
• Accommodation blocks for children
• Vocational training centre
• Classrooms and administrative offices
• Multipurpose hall
• Patron/matron residence
Additionally, the site will include:
• Agricultural learning spaces (allotments, livestock areas for chickens, goats, and pigs)
• Playgrounds
• Community spaces
The buildings and infrastructure will use sustainable, local materials and be constructed using environmentally responsible methods, including:
• Bricks, timber, and recycled materials
• Rainwater harvesting
• Natural ventilation and energy-efficient design
• Waste management and recycling
• Sustainable agriculture and landscaping
• Community engagement at every step
• Accommodation for children
• Office block with meeting rooms
• Covered kitchen facilities
• Patron/matron accommodation
• Small playground
• Security office
• Vocational training centre
• Multipurpose hall
• Large playground
• Allotments
• Livestock yards
This is an ambitious, life-changing project, and we welcome your support. Whether through donations, volunteering, or spreading the word, you can be part of transforming children’s lives in Iringa.
